Shatterproof is mobilizing supporters in Arizona to engage in a time-sensitive advocacy opportunity for those who are interested to consider lending their voice to support the removal of prior authorization requirements for all long‑acting injectable medications, helping ensure timely, equitable access to life‑saving treatment.

Arizona Medicaid (AHCCCS) is reviewing access to long‑acting injectable medications used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). These medications are supported by strong clinical evidence, yet some currently require prior authorization - while daily oral medications do not.

Prior authorization requirements can create real barriers for people seeking treatment - especially during vulnerable moments in recovery. These barriers may include:

Long‑acting injectable medications are evidence‑based and can be especially helpful for people who benefit from consistent dosing without the burden of daily medication management. Removing unnecessary administrative hurdles helps ensure that treatment decisions are driven by patient needs and clinical judgment - not paperwork delays.

This advocacy effort focused solely on improving access to evidence‑based care for Medicaid patients in Arizona.

AHCCCS is accepting public input ahead of its Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee meeting on May 19 (virtual). Interested advocates can participate in one of two ways:

Keep everyone fueled and hydrated! This team helps set up and take down the food and beverage area, lays out snacks and drinks, and coffee (if needed). You’ll help maintain a clean and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

Welcome participants to create a special memento honoring a lost loved one. Assist with photo and lanyard distribution and guide guests to the “Remembering With You” tent to display their tribute.

Be the first friendly face participants meet! Help with checking in, registering in the app, distributing incentives, or assisting with t-shirt purchases. You’ll also answer questions and help guide people to the right places at the event.

Capture the day’s magic! Use your own phone or camera to take photos of team moments, start/finish lines, the resource village, and the overall event. We’re excited to share a major win - Assembly Bill 2343 passed unanimously out of the Assembly Health Committee. This is a critical milestone toward ensuring that when people seek addiction treatment, they can access clear, reliable information about the quality of care they’ll receive.

Shatterproof's Treatment Atlas is launching in Virginia in Fall 2026, expanding access to transparent, evidence-based information about substance use treatment. We’re looking for Mobilizers to help raise awareness and distribute Treatment Atlas resources through trusted community networks.
